Governing Body Roles and Members

The roles and responsibilities of the Governing Body of Washingborough Academy are:

• To always endeavour to promote a high standard of quality of education
• To challenge and monitor the performance of the Academy
• To manage the academy trust finances and property
• To employ a high calibre of staff that will empower children with their learning

Election/Appointment of Governors

Parent and Staff Governors are elected. All other Governors are either appointed by members of the trust, or co-opted by the Governing Body.

Steve Baker has been elected as Chair of the Governing Body respectively for the 2025/26 academic year.

Day to day management of the school is delegated to the Headteacher.

Governor Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a member of the community to join our Governing Body at Washingborough Academy.  Governors work in partnership with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team at the academy. Their duties are wide-ranging and include agreeing the School Development Plan, deciding how the school budget will be set, monitoring pupil progress and attainment, recruiting staff and agreeing school policies.

Governors are expected to attend 6 full governing body meetings per year as well as participating in school visits to support and challenge the school. These meetings may be held during school time but are usually after school hours.

We welcome applications from everyone and see the value of the different experiences and skills each applicant will bring to the table; however, if you possess skills and experience in the following areas, we’d particularly love to hear from you:

• Human resources

• Premises management

• Education

• Inclusion

A diverse governing board will help children from all backgrounds to succeed and thrive – it allows us to create a culture of inclusion, challenge barriers, biases and stereotypes, and provide a wide range of role models for our pupils. We encourage all members of the local community, regardless of age, experience and background, to apply for the role.
